I have been passed an e-mail sent out to Tory councillors regarding a one day meeting for those local govt candidates who were elected. It seems a fine and informative day out until you get to noon. Am I alone in thinking that it is beyond irony for the "Director of the Party in Scotland" to tell people how NOT to lose the next election when he himself must take a substantial amount of the blame for our continued slide into oblivion? Having discussed this with one or two activists, it would seem that others share my opinion.

To be totally blunt, if that's your attitude before the session even starts then I don't think you guys will stand much of a chance whenever the next election is.
You can moan about elections gone by or you can work towards a better result tomorrow with whoever is in charge at the time.
Thanks for you comment Jeff and I appreciate what you say. However, the fact is that the once great Tory party in Scotland is stifled by a complete lack of ambition and ability at the higher echelons. It would be fine if we COULD work with some of these guys but their incompetence is masked by a dictatorial attitude that would be laughable were it not causing so much damage.
I'm afraid that the facts speak for themselves and the current regime is just not working in Scotland.
Yep, I was wondering if that was the other side of the coin regarding my comment.
I don't know Mark McInnes from Adam, or any of the other top Tories, but I hope you can get some good people at the top as even I (a West coast bleeding heart liberal) am crying out for a strong Tory party to keep the lefties in shape at Holyrood.
There does seem to be an alarming level of discontent within the Conservatives in Scotland though. There was a "we need a change" blog a while ago that descended into name-calling and toys being flung from the pram at every opportunity. And it seemed to involve a lot of party workers too.
I do think the political journey is a cyclical one and you'll be back, but as you say, you need the personalities and there aren't many around for you guys at the moment.
I guess you have a dilemma, wait for things to get better or help out with the current regime, prolonging when it will actually get fixed. Bit of a lose-lose situation I guess.
I genuinely don't think it will get better of its own accord. The party is flatlining, some our MSP's that should have retired at the election are simply coasting along until they DO retire at the next one and there is a symbiotic culture of failure in the party here which sees the failing political side of the party supported by the failing 'admin' side of the party and vice versa. As long both sides are as bad as they are nothing will change. Only when one side gets some smarter characters in it will there be any movement. Everyone seems to just toe the line and ignore the gravity of the situation.
I remember the "we need a change" blog, it was quite good but was a bit harsh. I was sorry to see that it was gone as I agreed largely with what he said (though not with the manner in which he said it).
It did seem to cause a lot of trouble and get a lot of attention which is probably what is needed to engender a will for change.
There are only one or two MSPs that are even useful. What ones do you rate Changer?
